How to make your wordpress site Nofollow or Dofollow
Being able to learn the basics of how dofollow and nofollow work, many bloggers and site owners now search for how to make their wordpress sites nofollow or dofollow. But there are still some webmasters that are yet to learn how nofollow and dofollow links work.
Brief explanations of Nofollow and Dofollow links:
Nofollow links:
Nofollow links are hyperlinks that contain the value of html attribute called rel=”nofollow”.
Because nofollow links contain this attribute(rel=”nofollow”),search engines do not follow those links.
If you have links that has the rel=nofollow attribute on your site, google or any other search engine will not pass your site’s “link juice” to the external site.
Usually, external links on wordpress sites like those found in the comment section are nofollow by default.
This means that you are telling google that this link is not part of your site and your site should not be used in build up the external site’s pagerank and anchor text.
Nofollow attribute also helps to fight comment spams as it scares away spammers.
Dofollow:
Dofollow links are hyperlinks that contain the html attribute called rel=”dofollow”.
I know you can already see where their names were derived from .i.e. from their html attributes.
As the name suggests, if you have a dofollow link, your site’s link juice, page rank will be used in building up the external site’s authority and the anchor text used for the link will also be followed by search engines.
There are various pros and cons of making your site either nofollow or dofollow.
For instance, when your site is dofollow, it brings you a much higher traffic because people will be rewarded with a dofollow link back to their sites if they leave their links on your site either by commenting or Guest posting.
However, this can also bring in a lot of spam comments on your site thereby decreasing your site’s reputation on search engines.
If you make your site nofollow especially in the comment section, people will be discouraged to comment and it will also adversely affect your site’s traffic.
These are just few instances, there may be other advantages and disadvantages associated with making your site either nofollow or dofollow.
Note: The higher the number of quality and related dofollow links pointing to your site or any of its pages, the higher your google pagerank.
How to make your wordpress site nofollow or dofollow:
To make your self-hosted wordpress site dofollow or nofollow is as simple as installing a plugin.
Just dowload this Follow Nofollow Control plugin.
Upload it via FTP to your site or use the Upload section in your wordpress dashboard.
Alternatively, you can search for “follow nofollow” without quotes in the “add new plugin” section of your wordpress dashboard.
Activate the plugin and locate the settings via Dashboard==>Settings==>Follow nofollow.
There, you can decide to make all external links on your site nofollow or dofollow.
If you want all external links on your site to be nofollow, leave every other settings and check the nofollow box on the Default section. You can also decide to make all external links dofollow by simply checking the box for dofollow.
If you do not want all external links to be nofollow, you can enter the links you prefer to be dofollow in the Follow Domains section.
Similarly, if you do not want all external links on your site to be dofollow, you can enter the links you prefer to be nofollow in the Nofollow Domains section.
Another easy way to make the links on the comment section of your wordpress site either nofollow or dofollow is to install the Commentluv plugin and upgrade to the premium version.
With this, you will be able to control which external links you should follow or not.
